Yes, we spent a lot of money on staying at Cayo, but then what we experienced was living in the lap of luxury for a week! We booked a villa and we weren’t disappointed. Spread over 3 floors and including a gym room with treadmill and exercise bike, plus complimentary mini-bar that was restocked daily, and of course, the private pool, I’m not sure we had much reason to venture out very much! It’s true that the villa is not what everyone chooses, but it was an excellent choice for us and well worth the extra we paid. The staff were excellent. The breakfasts were superb (thank Heaven for the bike and treadmill to try and minimise the damage of over indulgence). And, for the time we stayed there, we really did relax. Although each room has its own private pool, we did use the main pools in the hotel area - two large pools, separated by a terrace, with plenty of loungers for each, and the upper one next to the hotel bar. We can’t comment on dining at Cayo because, apart from breakfast, we ate at restaurants in Plaka (as a rule, when on holiday, we tend to skip lunch and have early dinners, and the options available in the village suited us better). Plaka is only a short walk down the hill although there is a shuttle service from the hotel if you’d prefer. We didn’t get to Elounda although it is only a short taxi ride from Cayo and looks to be a lovely port town. For relaxation, for quality family time, for excellent facilities, for friendly staff, for scrumptious breakfasts, for great location (remote but within easy access if you’d prefer more activity), I’m not sure you can beat Cayo. It’s firmly on our list of places we’ll return to.

A beautiful hotel with absolutely stunning views. Has a very new and spotlessly clean feel. The staff were amazing friendly and attentive throughout. The “cable car” style lift was very unique and lovely to use. They have a beach bar which is also great and very comfortable sun beds, with waiter service, which are free for hotel guests. The walk to the beach, beach bar and village is only 10 mins max but there is also a free shuttle that runs all day, on demand, especially if you don’t feel like the walk back uphill. When we booked it in the day at the beach bar, they gave us ice cold water and an ice cold towel while we waited (all of about 3 minutes!!). A true sign of quality. The food in the hotel was good but we ate a lot at the restaurants on the seafront. Many great ones to choose from and beautiful settings. Would highly recommend CAYO and Plaka

The staff went above and beyond mannerly, helpful polite and welcoming. The pool areas kept beautifully as where the gardens borders and planters. The food was lovely fresh tasty and plentiful. Our room was just lovely we were welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and fruit, cleaned perfectly each day and bedding changed regularly, great shower with shower gel shampoo conditioner and body lotions, lovely outdoor furniture and loungers and a fantastic large plunge pool. The fridge stocked with bottles of water daily. Free shuttle service into Plaka and return, and a service to and from the airport (payable to hotel) worth it. The views are spectacular overlooking the beautiful Spinalonga Island that as such history. The lagoon is breathtaking with the mountains shining down on the glimmering water. I could go on and on, we will definitely return.

Wonderful location with views of the sea and Spinalonga Island. We walked each evening the ten minutes to Plaka village for dinner. The breakfast was amazing! every possible need catered for, from cereal, fresh fruit bar, yoghurts, many types of bread, pastries, cakes, waffles, pancakes, hot food, juices, prosecco! Staff were lovely! wonderful poolside bar for lunch, great food and cocktails! Made use of the gym to account for all the excellent food! The accommodation was very clean, attended to daily as was our little pool. Proper coffee machine, fridge, water provided daily. The accommodation was on many levels to optimise the views, a cable car is provided to take you up. We rode on it to take in the view from the top!

Wow. The rooms were fabulous. Very well designed and thought out for form and function. Pool was perfect for hot mornings and early afternoon before sun dipped behind mountain. Great staff. The hotel restaurant was fabulous - kerlari! We only got to go once as it was closed the other night we were there. Such a surprisingly delicious meal!!! Great service too. Hotel was well made and well managed. Bountiful buffet breakfast. Great staff. Beautiful views. Adorable little town only 5 min walk to water with some dining options. Had a wonderful stay.
